Avast! Tybee Island pirates abound!
Can you tell we're gearing up for Tybee Island Pirate Fest? It's one of our favorite times of the year (next to National Talk Like a Pirate Day, which was September 19th. Mark it on your calendar for next year!)
It's the 5th Annual Tybee Island Pirate Fest this weekend and we're celebrating by telling y'all a bit about local pirate lore and just why we all get so excited about such swashbuckling frivolity. Savannah and Tybee Island are home to some fantastic sites of real life pirate and sea-faring adventures. The Pirates' House in downtown Savannah boasts one particular pirate of note - the notorious Captain Flint from Robert Louis Stevenson's famous book Treasure Island. Captain Flint gave the map of Treasure Island to Billy Bones on his death bed - a bed said to be in one of the upstairs bedrooms at The Pirates' House. There are stories of a ghost haunting the famous restaurant - could it be the ghost of Captain Flint?
It's definitely worth some investigating! And if this has you intrigued, be sure to check out Pirate Fest this weekend. More information on the festivities can be found in our event listing or at the official Pirate Fest website at http://tybeeisland.com/tybeepiratefest/.
