Become a Junior Civil War Historian
Together, nine Southeast regional national parks have joined to encourage young people and their families to visit special places that mark the history of the Civil War. This union inspired a contest to motivate youth to visit national parks with the incentive of becoming a Junior Civil War Historian. Beginning in 2011, children ages six and older can earn a special Junior Civil War Historian patch by participating and completing the Junior Ranger program at two or three of the participating national parks. The visits provide the young visitors with information to discover, explore, and learn about the history of the Civil War, how it impacted the American people, and how it is still affecting us today.
Fort Pulaski is one of the participating national parks that is encouraging this learning competition. To start your journey to achieving the Junior Civil War Historian honor, or to get your children involved visit the Fort Pulaski National Monument.
