Last Friday I got the good fortune of meeting up with local artist, Matt Hebermehl. You may be more familiar with his work than you know. Have you seen the new mural on MLK right before Broughton? Or the mural on 34th street – also known as “The Muracle on 34th Street”? Yes? Ok then you’re familiar.

A quick bit about Matt. He’s originally from Denver, but moved here to Savannah for SCAD in ’99. After graduating in 2003, he set off to San Diego and then eventually moved back here to Savannah. Once back in Savannah, he joined up with SeeSAW (co-founded by Matt and James “Dr. Z” Zdaniewski), an organization to promote positive community themed murals in the public domain. Is This Really What It’s Coming To?
By: E.T. Imagine yourself on a typical day in downtown Savannah. Perhaps you’re walking to City Market to get a bite to eat on your lunch break. You’re walking along, minding your own business and you decide to cross the street while it’s clear; so you look both ways, it’s clear, and you cross. Next thing you know there’s a cop blocking your path informing you that you just jaywalked and he hands you a ticket. You think to yourself, ok, this stinks, but it’s not a huge deal; I get parking tickets all the time. And so you carry on with your day.
