Enjoy a Movie in Forsyth Park
Saturday, May 28, 2011, Movies in Forsyth Park showed the 2010 blockbuster, The Karate Kid, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. The event was advertised as running from 7:30 to 10:00 PM, and at 7:00 the lawn at Forsyth was already filling up with moviegoers with their blankets and picnic baskets, chatting and munching on concessions from tents set up along the perimeter.
The movie did not start at 7:30, however; the big screen didn’t light up until it got dark at 9 PM. By that time, the lawn was packed; you could barely see an inch of grass between blankets. The film rolled, the 2010 remake of the story of a down and out young boy who bonds with an older, Asian man while learning the man’s traditional style of fighting (the original starred a Japanese mentor, who taught karate; the remake stars Chinese actor Jackie Chan, who teaches kung fu.)
The Karate Kid marks the second showing of films in Forsyth this season, following Toy Story 3. It was meant to be the third, but a showing of The Goonies was rained out.
