Greenbriar Children’s Center
Events have been scheduled for the rest of the year, including the 60th anniversary brunch on June 28 at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, a family reunion on July 15 at Greenbriar's campus, and the 60th anniversary Diamond Gala on Nov. 14 at the Westin Savannah Harbor.
Greenbriar Children's Center was established July 14, 1949 as an orphanage for African-American children in Savannah and surrounding areas. Prior to this time, black children who were homeless or without parental support were placed in local work farms and penal institutions. In the 1960's, Greenbriar opened its doors to children of all races and diversified its services to meet changing needs.
Greenbriar is a private, non-profit agency whose mission is to provide services which promote healthy development of children and the strengthening of families. We are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, and currently operate seven programs.
