High Times at High Tide: Labor Day Celebrations on Tybee Island
Labor Day was ratified as a national holiday in the late nineteenth century by President Grover Cleveland. Originally created to calm people down after a railroad strike devolved into police brutality, today Labor Day is celebrated with barbecues and a day free of work.
And where better to spend our day of freedom than beautiful Tybee Island? This Labor Day weekend, Tybee Fest presents the 4th Annual Labor Day Beach Bash. Sand, surf, and live music from the Swinging Medallions set the tone for this free event, and the evening ends with fireworks over the water.
The 4th Annual Labor Day Beach Bash takes place Sunday, September 4th at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. Festivities start at 7 PM and run until 11. Fireworks start as soon as it gets dark, around 9 PM. The event is presented by Tybee Fest, a nonprofit organization whose sole goal is to provide great festivals to the people of Tybee and visitors to the island.
