Have you wondered what the beautiful city of Savannah has to offer families and friends this Christmas? Savannah doesn’t disappoint with it’s plays, musicals, lights, and shopping!
There are quite a few sites in Savannah you don’t want to miss. Make sure you take your family to the delicious viewing of the Gingerbread Village (free by the way) at the Westin, and then take a relaxing trip across the river in the ferry (also free). Parents your little ones will be amazed by the culinary creations created just for this month.
Next it wouldn’t be Christmas without seeing the twinkling lights. And trust me, Savannah has a ton of them! Tonight starts with the December Nights & Holiday Lights at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens. This fantastic little event includes 12 nights of holiday lights, music and food for the entire family. You can expect to pay $5/person. Another great place you’ll want to check out for lights is the Festival of Lights on the Savannah Harbor Road Course. Start a new holiday tradition with this one of a kind, experiential, interactive holiday lights event. There are 2 ways to experience this fantastic light show – either by car ($20/car) or you can hop on Old Town Trolley Tours to see the show ($12.50/adult and $10/child). And finally there’s the traditional Savannah’s Lighted Parade, which runs tomorrow night at 5:30 and takes place on the River.
Next you’ll need to entertain your little ones this month. Savannah Civic Center is hosting Disney on Ice – starting today thru Sunday (December 2). All their favorites will be there, Lighting McQueen, Ariel from Little Mermaid, Simba from Lion King, and everyone’s favorite pixie, Tinkerbell. What about entertainment for the older kids (adults included)? Check out The Christmas Carol, performed by the group at AWOL. The Christmas Carol debuts tonight and runs through December 9.
There are a few shows you might want to check out too for the Christmas music lover. First check out Jazz & Christmas Carols Service at Ascension Lutheran led by Ben Tucker, and best part is that it’s free! Then you’ll want to check out the 2012 Holiday Pops event at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Sing-a-long to carols like Sleigh Ride, O Holy Night, Hallelujah Chorus and many other with soloist Tina Zenker Williams.
And finally after Christmas is all said and done, check out The Night After Christmas Comedy Jam on December 28.
There are many more things happening in Savannah this month. This is definitely just the tip of the iceberg. To find out more about what’s going on this December, check out our events for December.
