Recycling in Savannah
Do I have to sort my recyclables?
No. The City of Savannah utilizes the single-stream recycling method. You do not have to sort your household recyclables. Simply place accepted recyclables in the city approved yellow and black container.
What can I recycle?
The City’s recycling program accepts the following household items for recycling: plastic bottles & jugs (#s 1-7), tin, steel, bi-metal used food cans, aluminum beverage cans, glass bottles and jars, newspaper, mail inserts, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, phone books, paperback books, office paper, cardboard boxes (flattened), paperboard, brown paper bags.
Items must be cleaned of food and dried. Caps/lids must be removed and discarded. Wet items will no be accepted. Other prohibited items include: yard waste, trash, plastic bags, Styrofoam.
How often are recyclables picked up?
Recyclables are picked up by the City twice a month on the same day as your regular trash pickup. If your trash is picked up on a Monday or Tuesday, recycling is picked up on the 1st and 3rd Monday/Tuesday of each month. If your trash is picked up on a Wednesday or Thursday, your recycling is picked up on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday/Thursday of each month.
Don’t overfill your container. If you have extra recyclables, you may wait to recycle them until your next pick up, call the Sanitation Bureau (912.651.6565) and request a second recycling bin (for a one time fee of $50) or drop off your recyclables at the City Recycling Complex or a city-sponsored location.
Where is the City of Savannah Recycling Complex?
The Recycling Complex is located at 14 Interchange Court. (Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
The recycling Complex is where you can drop off extra household recyclables or where you can go to recycle non-household items such as scrap metals, old appliances and more. Call the Recycling Coordinator Office at 912.651.1967 for more information:
