You want to start the day off right by getting a good breakfast in your stomach. J. Christopher's is a great breakfast spot for the whole family. Located on Liberty Street just west of Abercorn, the garage-style building and brightly colored interior is sure to be a kid pleaser. Plus if you happen to have brought the family dog along on your trip he is welcome to sit beside you at one of the outdoor tables and enjoy a bowl of cold water. With everything from southern favorites like biscuits and gravy to lighter fare such as a granola parfait, everyone is sure to find something they want on the menu.
Now that you’ve had a good breakfast you’re ready for some exploring. Grab the car and head over to Oatland Island Wildlife Center. Located about 5 miles east of downtown Savannah, this conservation center is a great place for kids. Open daily from 10am to 4pm, the center is home to numerous different species of animals: including the bobcat, American alligator, white-tailed deer and bald eagle, to name just a few. There are also several different exhibit areas to check out and depending on the month, there may be special programs available. Check with the staff at the admission center to find out more. You’ll probably want to do this activity in the morning, as that’s the time of day you’re most likely to see the animals active.
After your wildlife adventure, you’ll want to head back downtown to Broughton Street for lunch at B&D Burgers. Voted Savannah’s Best Burger for the past seven years, there are over 170 different burgers to choose from, including 34 veggie burgers; a different type burger for every type of person. And yes, there is a kids menu that will make even the pickiest of eaters happy.
After lunch, you can start touring the downtown area. One of the best ways to see downtown is through a sight-seeing tour. You’re probably thinking the kids aren’t going to want to go on a boring tour, but what if said tour was on a horse-drawn carriage? That adds a little something to it don’t you think? Carriage Tours of Savannah has been around for more than 30 years and has one of the best, most entertaining tours in the city. Tours run from 9am to 3pm and depart from City Market.
After your tour, you’ll definitely want to take a few minutes to wander through City Market. With numerous shops, restaurants, art galleries and studios there’s a lot to see. At the east end of City Market, you’ll find Cafe Gelatohhh! Here you can treat your family to some great tasting ice cream, especially nice on a hot summer day. You may even get to listen to some live music while you enjoy your afternoon treat.
Located straight down Bull Street at the south end of the Historic District is Forsyth Park; a must-see while you’re in Savannah. You can stroll through the paths up to the famous fountain and then head over to the playground where the kids can let loose. Relax on a park bench and enjoy a little people watching before you head back downtown. Along the way you’ll see an abundant amount of shops all of which would be fun to check out.

Be sure to stop in at Savannah's Candy Kitchen for some tasty pralines, fudge or taffy. If it happens to be a month’s first Friday you’ll get to enjoy a firework show over the river that the kids are sure to love before calling it a night and heading back to the hotel.
